A SMALL COLLEGE CAN HELP YOU MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
Established in 1877 to educate former slaves,
Philander Smith College is Arkansas's oldest private
historically black college (HBCU). A privately
supported, four-year liberal arts college affiliated
with the United Methodist Church and the United Negro
College Fund (UNCF), PSC sits on an enclosed
12-square-block campus in the beautiful and historic
Quapaw Quarter of downtown Little Rock. The James M.
Cox Administration Building is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.
Small enough to offer one-on-one attention in a
family-style atmosphere, the College offers bachelor's
degrees after a quality education through six major
divisions: Teacher Education, Humanities, Natural and
Physical Science, Business and Economics, Social
Sciences, and the Division of Continuing Education.
The College is also BIG enough to provide activities
like a world-renowned choir, inter-collegiate
athletics, student government, and fraternities and
sororities.
Philander Smith College's rich legacy continues by
providing an educational experience that embraces
academic excellence, builds self-esteem, cultivates
critical thinking skills, and prepares learners for
tomorrow.
